As a follow up to my previous post, I just got another email that the Cloud 9 sale is on again and there are still some Reading locomotives listed. My Geep and RS-3 arrived the other day and both are very nice models. The RS-3 is no. 494, which according to posts by JoannaBill and others is not 100% accurate in details or paint. So, I downloaded a copy of the RS-3 article found in the “Articles” section and plan to make some modifications and add details where necessary.

Can anyone give additional details regarding the paint on no. 494? What specifically is incorrect on the Athearn model?

Thanks, Mark

Hey Mark...The main difference was the way the G/Y was applied around the cab.I'll describe it with pics of my completed 494.
This first pic shows the right 2 end.The green is applied even on the rear of the cab with the short hood and it does not wrap around to the cab side above the engineer's window.

The next is right side front. The lower green does not wrap around the front of the cab and meet the long hood. The upper green on the front of the cab is even with the roof line and not with the green on the long hood.

Left side front and rear are pretty much self explanatory.

Also, the pilot faces were painted black. Now,I haven't seen any in person.I'm working off the picture and art work from Athearn's web site.

Here is a shot of 494 in west Cressona 1971. Note the venting on the battery boxes, a nice Reading touch!

haha that's pretty funny, I blinked my eyes a couple times - I thought I was messed up - then I realized the diamond shape was for real...

Almost three days without a Rdg Mod fix (posting)..... It must be that time of year. Too nice to bury yourself in the basement, too hot not too, but the woman folk give you the evil eye if you do, so I haveta go out and suffer in the garden..... Really ought to take that Aristo craft PRSL RDC out and put down some track for it (that would fix her!)

I just read a post over on The Atlas Rescue Forum that BLI is having a sale on “refurbished” items. Apparently, these items were returned for whatever reason, fixed, and are put on sale at 40% discount. Four T1s are listed.

BLI HO sale

Thanks, Mark
