Regarding Bowser’s new release of HTg cars, the font looks to be correct, but as stated above it appears too thick especially when compared to the photos on page 51 of Bossler’s book. However, there is a photo on page 44 of the RMJ September 96 issue that “does” appear to show the lettering as thick as the Bowser model. (Typically, I would post a link to the article page found at Trainlife.com, but their site isn’t working properly.) I pulled a Bowser car out of my collection, and the printing appears to be the same as what is shown on the car in the announcement email.

Also, Chris’ comment about the slope sheet is correct; it is wrong for the HTg class because those cars had a 3,487 cubic foot capacity where as the Bowser model represents a car with a capacity closer to 3,400. This is a “love it or leave it” situation as there really isn't an easy fix to correct this feature on the Bowser RTR model. For the kit (if available), maybe sheet styrene could be laminated to the slope sheet to reshape it.

Many posts ago, possibly on the old web forum. I displayed my displeasure in the way the companies painted car choices. My major repaint program Is taking my
1.)old bowser cars factory painted HTg with the large RDG. I sprayed out the herald, data, number. I left the Bethlehem Steel logo. and then decaled it to a HTe with reading speed lettering. The car is right for a HTe but the slope sheet is the wrong angle for a HTg.
2.)Bachman silver series cars factory painted in Reading HTe with Speed lettering. It has the right slope sheet for a HTg so I am removing and painting out the speed lettering and number & data. Again leaving the Beth Steel logo. Then decaling it to a HTg with the large RDG and new data & number.

Both these companies seemed to think they could sell there version yet both were wrong and could have been right. go figur?
3.)The third and cheapest cars are the Life Like cars. some were Bev bel. I picked some up at a swap meet for $5.00 ea. The paint was right well almost. with the Beth steel logo missing and the white R inside a yellow circle makes it closer to an HTd but the R should be in the next pannel. These cars need frame work. I shaved down the bolster and shoved out the trucks tword the end and put KDs in coupler boxes. Like the article in RMC. Neubaur sounds right. bracing the coupler box is the hardest part.

The last photo Is a repainted and decaled and modified life Like HTe.

Can anyone comment on the authenticity of these drawings? I bid (and lost) on both the GP30 and the GP35. There was also a drawing for the SD45 and a current auction is running for the Alco C630. Had I won, I was going the get them scanned and submitted for inclusion in the articles section of this site.

If they’re real Reading drawings, I hope the new owner is willing to share them with others.

They're the genuine article! The seller obtained the drawings from EMD in 1975. I have copies, but don't know if they'l scan.

Bill, if it were something you would be interested in doing, I would gladly pay to get them scanned at a print shop or drafting service. I “knew” I should have increased my bid, but wasn’t sure if they were worth it. :pinch:

Do you think the information on the drawings is worth the effort to be incorporated in this website (with Rob’s Tom's approval of course)?

Who is this Rob and why would you need his approval?

Best check with Tom for that permission, lol.

I wonder if those e-bay items were the "real" prints received from EMD or copies of the real prints from EMD. Either way they are of value to the modeler.

Many similar drawings are also in the RCT&HS archives. Some have been reprinted in the Bee Line. Copies of some were also sold by the RCT&HS in the early days and may well still be sold at the gift shop in Hamburg. I believe I have (buried somewhere) The GP-30, GP-35 and SD-45 prints, although again likes Bill's, may not be copy worthy due being originally copied way back when and on "old school" copy machines, when the "blue line" prints were difficult for the copiers to "see".
