I'm planning on doing a couple of these bulkhead flats. The only reference I have is the picture on page 20 of Bossler's book.
My questions,
Does anyone have any other pictures they could share?
Did any of the six flats receive the green paint scheme?
If not,
Were they all painted black and lettered like the example in
Bossler's book.

I thought I'd seen a picture of one of the flats painted green with yellow speed lettering and orange grabs.Maybe I'm dreaming.

Any info would be great.

I think there was and article in Railroad Model Craftsman years ago about modeling 4 types of Reading flat cars. it was by the late Bill Gruber. if it is the car, I did one myself from the article. I will look it up when I get home from work.

Butch, the RMC article you mentioned appeared April of 1995. The bulkhead flats discussed were the 50' all welded FMe. Bill.

Well I checked all my resources and couldn't find the picture I'd thought I'd seen.I do have the issue of MRC with the article on RDG flats. The picture of the green FMe was not the one I was referring to...oh well.
I did however complete my version of 9280 using a Intermountain kit.It is not prototypical to the core, but it's a good enough stand in for me.The only picture I found to work with was the one in the Bossler book.
After assembling the kit the unit was painted with SCII engine black.Decals used were from the RDG Modeler. The RDG and number decals on the ends of the car were taken from other decals I had on hand.
Here are a few pictures before I get around to weathering.
