This board is the place where questions and information specific to MODELING the Reading Company, its equipment and operations can be shared - questions like "What was the window arrangement of AF Tower in Alburtis?" and "What color paint do YOU use to paint the Reading's cream-and-brown buildings?" We also want to hear about YOUR Reading modeling projects!

Thanks, Chris and Tom. Chris your diorama/layout almost smells Rdg.. Tom-it wasn't me -I'm morally opposed to sniping..even when I am selling, but can't stop it. Missed all you guys. It's lonely being a Rdg man in northern New England! But believe it or not, a Rdg modeler lives a mile an a half away-someone who was I f anyone heard of Bob Kenderdine, from Perkasie, he's alive and well in Lewiston ME!

Man I don't know what happened, but I can't find the pictures of any of my models aside from the ones I just took for that showcase post...I hope they aren't lost...Well use your imagination while I describe my efforts (most substantial first...)

RS-3 #484 (my favorite diesel model so far):

This started as an Atlas Classic. I added a smokestack cover, in the open position. Also added the drip strips, pilot details (cut lever, mu cables, airline hose...), cut off half the fuel tank to match the prototype with the smaller capacities, added a 3-chime (Leslie?) horn on a styrene bracket to the cab. Painted pullman green, decaled, BLMA grab irons

NW2 #90:
Added pilot details, grab irons, drip strips, not much else required.

FA1 A/B #304: Painted/decaled, pilot details, rear lanterns, BLMA steps and grab irons.

Trainmaster...This is a toughy because Atlas doesn't make the correct body style with the head lights and tail lights in the correct position. So what I will be doing is cutting the front of the long hood of a spare shell and replacing it with the front of the short hood. This will raise the headlamp higher to the roof as well as a larger headlamp. Everything else will be standard detail modeling.

I also did a scale test car that I had pictures posted on the old forum, have no idea where they are today. I used brass rod to imitate the brake hoses and put a brake stand and appropriate wheel on top, as well as the sign hanging down fron the handrails. All decals were custom designed and printed by me.

The pride and joy of my rolling stock roster is only half done, and I plan on working on it while I'm here in Korea. Its the auxiliary tank car for the Tamaqua wreck train. I'll post this one in a seperate post, because I need more guidance on it.

Thats about it, hope to get some pictures here next year when i unload the moving boxes!!

Thanks Tom.
Wowak, the bridge is a Walther's kit and there's an option to combine kits. With two kits you could almost duplicate that bridge.

Are you familar with John Pechulis Media? They produce digital film transfers and their dvd's are outstanding.I have quite a few.My favorite set consists of 5 volumes. Each vol.is about 60 min.long.It's titled,"Railfanning with the Bednars".The subject deals with the LV,but there's alot of RDG action included. It's either vol.3 or 4 that shows two RDG geep 7's hauling a coal train east over that same bridge. There's also a veiw of the same train coming down grade through Tamaqua.I would recommend these to all RDG fans.

I can vouch for the quality of John Pechulis' DVDs - I haven't seen the Bednar DVDs yet but I would bet they're first-rate. Mike is a phenomenal storyteller. I bought John's 3-volume set of Lehigh & New England DVDs, all narrated by Mike, and I can tell you honestly, this site was a hair's breadth away from becoming "The LNE Modeler!"

Hey I'd join that group too. It was sad when Mr Herzog went from LNE to Rdg.. I liked both! I have a latent LNE itch, so don;t get us TOO distracted . I have modeler's ADD as it is! I just bumped into a Rdg modelere up here named Robert Kenderdine, from Perkasie til 2005 I think. Lives about 10 minutes away-met thru selling some stuff on Ebay...

Mitch: jim Herzog was allways a dyed in the wool Reading fan. Before he made his 1st LNE layout he was a member of th East Penn Model Railroad Club in Emmaus along the East penn Branch. He had a lot of reading equipment.Although he did run his FA set of LNE engines. Our club back then was primarily Reading. As far as Bob Kenderdine my brother Gary Knows him and I may have purchased some engines when he moved. Someone was selling rdg units on consinment thru J&D whistle stop in Quakertown. I purchased an AS-16,RS-3,& 2 GP7s all were altered power wise and many details some scratch built. I will post some pics later.I wondered what happened to him.
