What's the difference between a GP40-2 and GP39-2? What year did the Reading dieselize? How many tracks were in Rutherford Yard? This board focuses on a discussion of questions or issues concerning the "prototype" Reading Company and its predecessors. While the aim of this board is to serve as a resource for prototype information for modeling purposes, general discussion and sharing of knowledge is also encouraged.

RTCO operates in 1960 588 bus route miles and 970 truck route miles.

__________________________________________________________

RTCO leases 220 trailers from XTRA (could some of these be the "On Time Delivery" trailers?)

_________________________________________________________________________-

1973 RTCO buys 3 Mercedes Benz trucks and 3 truck bodies. (I assume delivery box van bodies?)

They add these 3 trucks to their previously bought roster consisting of 10 Mercedes Benz trucks
model # LP-LPS-10-13-B (can anyone come up with at least a photo of this style truck as I have no idea what one looks like?)

_________________________________________________________________________--

1974 proposes to buy one 80,000 LB and one 76,000 LB capacity flatbed trailer. Both are used. Don't know if they bought them or not.

___________________________________________________________________________

RTCO buys 10 new trucks and 10 new trailers.

____________________________________________________________________--

1970 trailer 3502 was hijacked in Philly. loaded with canned goods worth $4,700. Trailer was wrecked. Damage was estimated to be $1,700. Trailer was considered a total loss.

____________________________________________________________________________________

RTCO purchases 3 used reefer trailers that were built in 1966.

While I'm not an expert on Mack Trucks, from brief research, the "D" model was a short wheelbase Cab-over Mack tractor, probably used for city deliveries and the "G" model was longer with a larger cab probably for intercity deliveries.

I have a RTCO Equipment Summary. In it lists a "twin screw tractor".

What is it exactly that they are talking about?

Thanks,

If memory serves correct a "twin screw" is a tractor with tandem drive wheels behind the cab, out of curiosity what year is the listing? I am trying to remember what my late friend told me about the ICC banning the use of this style tractor on the East coast. Anybody out there who drove during those days can validate this???

Thank you for your reply!

The list is from 1970.

Also on the list is a trailer with an "expandable platform". Care to guess what that is? Is it a flatbed trailer of some sort?

Thanks,
John Caples
