What's the difference between a GP40-2 and GP39-2? What year did the Reading dieselize? How many tracks were in Rutherford Yard? This board focuses on a discussion of questions or issues concerning the "prototype" Reading Company and its predecessors. While the aim of this board is to serve as a resource for prototype information for modeling purposes, general discussion and sharing of knowledge is also encouraged.

Hi Guys, I'm new to the site so I hope this works.

I seem to remember a waside station sign behind the Queen of the Valley diner that designated the location as "LAWN". There was no physical stucture, just the sign. I assumed that is how the community of West Lawn got its name since it was a mile or so west of the sign.

Interesting thought Gary. There was probably some type of shelter there in the late 1880's or early 1900's. I'm not familiar with the history of that area, but at one time it was know as West Wyomissing.

I can remember standing close to this spot in the early 70's to see the 2102 take a ramble up the Cross Line. Had to keep checking my back because any diesels coming east would have been coasting down the hill and not making any noise. People kept telling me I was looking the wrong way.

To the left of the engine was the site of the old Penn Iron Works. It was removed to make way for the new Rte 222 connection to the Warren Street bypass.

Here's 2719 at Pport Richmond in May, 1977, note the Conrail applied coupler cut-lever modifications.
