What's the difference between a GP40-2 and GP39-2? What year did the Reading dieselize? How many tracks were in Rutherford Yard? This board focuses on a discussion of questions or issues concerning the "prototype" Reading Company and its predecessors. While the aim of this board is to serve as a resource for prototype information for modeling purposes, general discussion and sharing of knowledge is also encouraged.

same "flip-top" model as found on PRR A-5 0-4-0 and B-6 0-6-0's assigned to waterfront or industrial assignments where a live spark or cinder could be a major hazard (think refineries, indoor tracks, etc.. Bet some Rdg classes of same wheel arrangement could be found with some digging around! Bowser made some for the A-5 just before ending steam production a few years back but wouldn't be hard to
scratch build.

Since 2771-chris has stirred up interest in the SW-1500's I'll dig up a few more to scan. Anyway, for Friday I offer RDG 489 at a location I think is Rutherford

Well, Chris I really don't have enough of my own good shots to make a decent book. There's a chance however that I may collaborate with a couple of old friends and betwen us, who knows.

Bill, Chris is right, you should consider publishing. Your photos capture some very interesting scenes and the photography (composition, focus, exposure, etc.) is excellent. Have you ever talked to Benjamin Bernhart of the Reading Transportation Museum? I’ve talked to him at a couple train shows and he seems like a nice person. He might be able to help you with your book and probably could get it published for you.

Here is my meager contribution for the day:

RDGboxcar.jpg

This was taken in the Reading yards sometime in the late 70s. All I had was a very cheap point-and-shoot Kodak 110 camera.

Does anyone know if this boxcar made it to the RCT&HS collection, or was it scrapped?

Mark,

Yes, Class XMy boxcar #106760 still exists today and is at Hamburg. It was the RCT&HS' first railroad car acquisition, in 1984.
