What's the difference between a GP40-2 and GP39-2? What year did the Reading dieselize? How many tracks were in Rutherford Yard? This board focuses on a discussion of questions or issues concerning the "prototype" Reading Company and its predecessors. While the aim of this board is to serve as a resource for prototype information for modeling purposes, general discussion and sharing of knowledge is also encouraged.

Mark, first off, I spoke with Ben Bernhart and he wasn't very encouraging. Bob Gottschall, author of the book on T-1's and Green Machines is a long time friend of mine. I might try and collaborate with him, Because I was particular, I don't have tons of action shots, necessary, in my opinion for a good book. The other issue is the number of B/W shots I have. Back in the day, I spent my college career working as a news/police photographer and always carried one camera loaded with Black & White film. These days, no one wants to pay for B/W photos. I'm happy to share them here, and Tom might give me my own album.

Now, where was the location of that boxcar with the door and steps? I see something like that on my layout one day.

And here's an HTx hopper along the main line in Muhlenberg Township. Always were interesting cars stored there/

Okay, so I wasn't happy with the shot of 2760, so I cleaned it up a bit. So unfortunate that we didn't have photo-editing software in the 70's.

Also here is 2756 at Wayne Junction in May of 1977. Taken from a moving MU-car train when the Philly Chapter, NRHS ran a farewell to the green cars fantrip.

Stumbled across this one of Scale Test Car 91210, taken again on 3/31/1976. This was a great day for RDG photography. Everyone's last day working for the Company. No one questioned us or even seemed to notice.

Bill, that photo was taken in the Reading yards near the coal tower (if I remember correctly). The timeframe was probably 1978 or 79.

I also recall that it was at about that time Conrail was using the main locomotive shops to paint their cabooses. Maybe that explains the lineup in the background, but it could just be coincidence.
