What's the difference between a GP40-2 and GP39-2? What year did the Reading dieselize? How many tracks were in Rutherford Yard? This board focuses on a discussion of questions or issues concerning the "prototype" Reading Company and its predecessors. While the aim of this board is to serve as a resource for prototype information for modeling purposes, general discussion and sharing of knowledge is also encouraged.

Nice to see what good repair it was in.. also, for freelance modelers, good use of a station after it's ended passenger service usage. Also note the true Rdg-ness of the pole with a gazillion crossarms long after most were probably needed!

Here are two views of SW-900, 1510 working in Birdsboro, at the Penn Central Crossing. The tower was BE on the Reading and Brooke on the PRR/PC.

Notice in the lower photo, on the right side, one can see the three coaling "silos" from steam days. I always thought that was an unusual set up. I do not recall seeing such locomotive coaling docks anywhere beside Birdsboro. Correct me if I am wrong, however I think the engine is on or heading for the Wilmington and Northern in the photos and parrallel to the Pennsy. The tracks leading off to the right would form a wye and head over the river to the Mainline. The Steam locomotive servicing area was along the "north (or west)" leg of the wye coming from the river and heading back toward the Belt Line. The structure behind the 1510 in the upper photo is Birdsboro Steel Corporation
