The photos in this album have been provided by Jeff Smith, and were taken on his home layout (under construction) and the Stiegel Valley Model Railroad Club HO Scale layout in Manheim, PA. The Club models the Reading's Reading and Columbia branch in Lancaster County in HO, and features some exquisite detailing and scratchbuilt structures. Jeff is currently constructing an HO home layout depicting the Pottsville, PA area.

Jeff Smith provided this timeless image of a Reading camelback 0-4-0 "goat" delivering a hopper full of coal on the Stiegel Valley club layout. Note the weathering on both the locomotive and hopper car, and the rust spots on the conveyor and the oil drum at right. Reading camelback #1187, a locomotive similar to that pictured, is preserved at the Railroad Museum of PA.

Jeff Smith painted, weathered and detailed this Atlas RS-3, seen here on the Stiegel Valley club layout, north of White Oak, heading toward Mt. Hope. The locomotive has been detailed with marker lights, the classic Reading "drip strips" and an appropriately mounted horn. The scenery on the Stiegel Valley layout is very well done - take note of the water running out of the corrugated
metal culvert.

Jeff Smith captured this view of a Reading steam locomotive rolling into the small hamlet of White Oak on the Stiegel Valley layout. Another beautifully detailed scene - note the individual boards on the deck of the coal trestle and the gingerbread trim on the tool shed in the right of the photo - typical of Reading construction.

Here's another view of the Reading freight pulling into White Oak. This one shows off the really incredible detail that the Stiegel Valley club puts into the structures on the layout. The building at right is one of the Reading's classic octagonal outhouses - take note of the peeling paint and the rust streaks on the metal roofs!
