This board is the place where questions and information specific to MODELING the Reading Company, its equipment and operations can be shared - questions like "What was the window arrangement of AF Tower in Alburtis?" and "What color paint do YOU use to paint the Reading's cream-and-brown buildings?" We also want to hear about YOUR Reading modeling projects!

I have the Philadelphia Division, Time Table No. 3, Sunday, October 31, 1965. Nothing there.

ETtRT p. 17 "The Reading chose portal type structures formed from H sections of steelwork to for the columns and crosspieces, supported with knee braces.....between Wayne Jct. and Reading Terminal, ...the structures were modified in that a truss span was used for the crosspiece. On the single track territory, self-supporting columns with bracket arms were installed, with back guys attached for additional support. In addition, an I beam was affixed to overhead bridges to offer support at these locations.
Spacing fo the catenary structures was based on the type of catenary construction used on the particular line. On the Ninth Street Branch from Reading Terminal to Wayne Jct., Tabor Branch, Bethlehem Branch to Jenkintown and New York Branch, structures were set at 300 foot spacings. the lines to Chestnut Hill, Doylestown, Hatboro, Lansdale and Norristown were constructed with the catenary structures 250 feet apart."
Then follows a discussion of the wires.

Here are some pics. They aren't the best, and I need to tweak some things (I also need to finish those two Silverliner IVs and the rest of my Green cars!).

What do you guys think?

I forgot to mention one cool, non standard detail- the SEPTA Silverliner has Reading Company Cow Catchers instead of typical "bar" pilots like on the Penn Central versions.

The other IHP kits don't appear to have these details.

The catenary definitely has that "Reading" look. Don't forget to visit the "Modeling Goodies" section of the site to download the "High Voltage" signs to affix to the uprights...
