I di believe it was a Robin's Rail PS-1 car that made the best representation for the XLj (the 3rd) There was a good article on the prototype in January 83 Railroad Model Craftsman. No suggestion as to what model to use.... (How could that be 31 years ago, something t'aint right here)Here is an end view of 20186

Managed to order 6 off eBay and a decal set from Accurail. Hopefully will have them a week or so. Has anybody else managed to find any elsewhere? I looked on the Accurail website but the RDG section doesn't have the "Buy Now" button...

I picked up one yesterday. It compares nicely with the picture that Rob posted, paint and lettering faded as if the car has seen 10 plus years of service.I plan on repainting and decaling mine.If you model Conrail some weathering is all the car needs.

Thats good to know Chris, look forward to getting them onto the layout. I have also ordered a few undecorated 60' Boxcars that I will be doing in a similar RDG scheme.
I have a fairly good CR Rolling Stock fleet, but the RDG was suffering until know. What's the plan for repainting and decals? Need to make them newer?

Here's a picture comparing the paint and decals on the new accurail model and an accurail car of the same 5700 series I did some months ago.I experimented with the 40ft banner decals offered by the RDG modeler...I tried stretching them to fit the 50fter but couldn't get them to look right. So,I just applied the 40fters.

My plan is to repaint using ScalecoatII RDG green and decal in the same scheme using some Herald King decals.

Chris, If you get a chance, could you please direct the camera toward the end of those cars. Would like to check that out.

Thanks
Rob
