What's the difference between a GP40-2 and GP39-2? What year did the Reading dieselize? How many tracks were in Rutherford Yard? This board focuses on a discussion of questions or issues concerning the "prototype" Reading Company and its predecessors. While the aim of this board is to serve as a resource for prototype information for modeling purposes, general discussion and sharing of knowledge is also encouraged.

Kato? I remember wishing I had the talent and financial wherewithal to do the Athearn ones when they came out in 1966! (I was 10) I remember seeing them at the home signals on the east end of the Flat Rock tunnel, along the Surekill Crawlway with the 6500 series numbers on 'em. That's older ago than I want to think of...

Here's RDG 1507 in Reading Yards. This was shot in 1977. Note the care taken in removing the footboards and modifying the coupler cut lever. Those Reading shop guys took pride in their work!

Well we know where the boxcar is
> Hamburg, PA, RCT&HS's very frst acquisition. Acquired to provide a "tool room" for the return of the 2100, which never showed up in Reading from Hagerstown, thanks mostley to the doouble talking politicians in the City of Reading.

The caboose was also promised, but with no place to call home at the time, the RCT&HS could not accept it from the Reading Company.

Did You Know?

October, 1962
Loss of mail and Railway Express Agency contracts prompts severe cuts in passenger service, including annulment of all service to Shamokin, and the Allentown-Harrisburg trains, and a reduction on remaining routes. RDCs replace most locomotive-hauled trains, freeing former passenger locomotives for freight service.
