What's the difference between a GP40-2 and GP39-2? What year did the Reading dieselize? How many tracks were in Rutherford Yard? This board focuses on a discussion of questions or issues concerning the "prototype" Reading Company and its predecessors. While the aim of this board is to serve as a resource for prototype information for modeling purposes, general discussion and sharing of knowledge is also encouraged.

I think some may have been still sitting around on sidings in the early 70's? I do remember a string of the old air dumps still in oxide red stored along the main in Birdsboro in 72 or so...thanks for sharing, Francis!

This ebay seller has several listings he claims to be P&R steam engines from way back when. here is a link to his listings, can anyone verify if they are or are not genuine P&R?

Interesting.....

He seems to be pretty accurate on all the other photos listed, at least the ones that I recognized as far as the trolleys. So I don't know why he would stray on the P&R's, although my best answer is "I can't say he isn't accurate." They would almost have to be from glass-plate negatives. I have seen some similar locos referred to in Reading publications, in particular the production made for the 125th(?) anniversary. Since this booklet is not currently locatable in my inventory (due to moving {again}) I cannot compare them directly. Another book to compare them with might be the 100 years of Reading Locos or Wiswesser's P&R locos book. (BTW, both probably in the same box as the other book)

Speaking of Ebay, I just grabbed this shot of 3640 in very fresh paint. Note the horn arrangement, it looks different from what is typically found on Reading GP35s. Anyone have an update on the restoration of this unit?
