Speaking of 100 ton hoppers, does anyone have a good close up photo of the “B” end brake detail on “any” HT class hopper? All the photos in Bossler’s guidebook are either ¾ or full side views that do not show the brake equipment clearly. I want to add piping and reposition the triple valve on my Bowser kits to match the prototype. From what is visible in the photos I’ve seen, it looks like the triple valve supplied in the Bowser kit is completely wrong for Reading hoppers.

Here are the best photos I could find of an HT car that matches the Bowser model. However, Bowser numbered their cars for the HTg class, which has a different angled slope sheet than the model. (See RMJ Sept 96 page 44).

Has anyone tackled modeling an HTg with the shallow slope sheet?

Keep in mind that the Reading & Northern has a pile of those HTg class cars in their fleet, so you could probably find one that is accessible for detail photos. I cannot tell you if they have had any major rebuilding in the brake equipment area. I believe they were rehabbed, but I do not know to what extent.

Really? I didn’t know that; maybe a field trip is in order once the weather turns warmer.

I’ve been using this photo as a reference for the placement of the angled mounting brackets for the air reservoir. Just making that small change does a lot to improve the end details.

If shopping for Bowser hoppers at a better price...... They list Undecorated KITS for $13.00 per on Toy Train Heaven...... I just got a pile... Beats paying over 20 bucks for Pennsy and CR cars and having to strip them on top of it.... (Although it is fun to strip Pennsy cars to turn them into HTe's )

I found them at a show decorated as HTe (speed lettering, 416xx-417xx) for $9.75. Old stock, so old the weights had started to rust a little in the box. Next time I see him I'll probably get a few more.

Since the Conrail split I haven't seen a one of these, they used to turn up fairly regular. I think a few even got the NYC treatment.
