Better get use to those bulbs, I’ve read on other model train forums that Athearn has absolutely no interest in converting to LEDs. Someone commented that they have something like a billion bulbs in their inventory!

LED headlamps are a good topic to bring up. I have a bunch of burned out headlamps that if I'm going to take the time to replace, may as well learn the proper LED and resistor to use and at least bring that part of my models up to a 21st century standard. I'm sure we have some electronics oriented folks here that could help us all out with a tutorial?

LED lighting. A good source of LED's is Richmond Controls at www.richmondcontrols.com A big plus in their line is the tiny surface mount LEDs with leads already attached. There are several sites on-line that give instruction on the use of dropping resistors with LED's. A caution is to watch the power dissipation of the dropping resistor to avoid excessive heat damaging the decoder or shell of your favorite loco.

Bill, if you read Model Railroader, check out P.66-67 of the October 2014 issue. The topic is based on choosing the right resistor for LED's and the best part is they kept it simple (which works for me as I'm lacking in electrical land!) Bill.
