The photos in this album have been provided by Jeff Smith, and were taken on his home layout (under construction) and the Stiegel Valley Model Railroad Club HO Scale layout in Manheim, PA. The Club models the Reading's Reading and Columbia branch in Lancaster County in HO, and features some exquisite detailing and scratchbuilt structures. Jeff is currently constructing an HO home layout depicting the Pottsville, PA area.

Four of this class of 30 survive today: #2100 (Washington State), #2101

Here we see Reading FP-7s #902 and #903 idling at Pottsville on Jeff Smith's home layout. The Reading's FP-7s were the only locomotives that the railroad purchased solely for passenger service, and hauled such famous Reading trains as the Crusader, King Coal, and the Schuylkill, as well as the push-pull train between Philadelphia and Reading in the road's final days. These units are Intermountain models that Jeff detailed and weathered. The REAL #902 and #903 have been preserved and restored, and sister #900 is awaiting restoration as well.

Today's consist for the KING COAL between Philadelphia and the Coal Regions includes several cars built by Jeff Smith. Here we see a class PBu "blimp" coach that Jeff built from a Bethlehem Car Works brass kit. The car has a detailed interior including passengers, window shades, and lighting.
Take note of the backdrop in this photo - viewers familiar with the Pottsville area will note
that this is an authentic backdrop. Jeff photographed the buildings in Pottsville and edited them with Photoshop Elements, sizing them to the appropriate scale and merging them into one photo, then printed them out for use on the backdrop. Very convincing effect!
