What's the difference between a GP40-2 and GP39-2? What year did the Reading dieselize? How many tracks were in Rutherford Yard? This board focuses on a discussion of questions or issues concerning the "prototype" Reading Company and its predecessors. While the aim of this board is to serve as a resource for prototype information for modeling purposes, general discussion and sharing of knowledge is also encouraged.

Nothing beats sand particles, and plain old dirt for that weathered look.

Bill, my greatuncle worked at West Cressona and had 494. I think at that time they were still using the scale at St.Clair yard. Correct me if Iam wrong. Before they started to use St.Clair for shop storage. Todd Shoffler

As a kid I can remember seeing a three unit set of rs3's bringing loaded coal hoppers out of the K&P coal company siding on the Mine Hill.494 was the 2nd unit.I wonder if the picture of 494 at West Cressona with the other rs's was the same lash-up I witnessed?

Did You Know?

October, 1962
Loss of mail and Railway Express Agency contracts prompts severe cuts in passenger service, including annulment of all service to Shamokin, and the Allentown-Harrisburg trains, and a reduction on remaining routes. RDCs replace most locomotive-hauled trains, freeing former passenger locomotives for freight service.
