Friend AJ from Philly, here in Detroit area on long term business, bought me a F unit shell at a recent train show. I went on a mission and found an Athearn chassis and trucks. Got it put together and now have two A-B unit sets. See them here in the yard engine facilities...

It's not a Genesis shell - no wire grabs and the paint is different shade of green/yellow. Anyone want to clue me in as to what it might be? Fits the Athearn frame very well.

Also- received the 2nd Alco C630 from my friend Joe, as advertised in the MarketPlace section! Here's my pair posing for a roster shot...

That shell is probably an old Mantua.

HI Bill... Manuta you say... I can't seem to remember them making those, but I'll take your word for it! Seemed too in new condition to be an older item.
When did they make those?
Thanks!
Thanks,
Barry

Mantua did make Reading F7 shells in the 90s - I recall seeing them at the Iron Horse in Reading. My first "semi-real" train set after the crappy Bachmann set I got just for the sake of getting back in to the hobby was the Manuta "Reading Freight Hauler" with their GP20 in the yellow-green scheme, an NYC Pacemaker boxcar, a Penn Salt tank car (little did I know years later their successor would be one of my clients) and their oversize Northeastern caboose. I didn't know any better at the time re the inaccuracy of the loco and caboose...

Did You Know?

October, 1962
Loss of mail and Railway Express Agency contracts prompts severe cuts in passenger service, including annulment of all service to Shamokin, and the Allentown-Harrisburg trains, and a reduction on remaining routes. RDCs replace most locomotive-hauled trains, freeing former passenger locomotives for freight service.
